2010 Scholarship Awards

Western Washington County Employer Councilawards three $1000 scholarship

Three scholarships were awarded by the Western Washington County Employer Council (WWCEC), a non-profit organization with a mission of bridging communication and goals of Western Washington County employers, the Worksource Oregon Employment Department
and the workforce of Washington County.

One of the three $1000 scholarships was awarded to native Oregonian, Victoria Sanders, who has always had a passion for working with hair and makeup since she was a little girl.  Throughout her life, Victoria has overcome some very difficult obstacles but has been able to overcome them and become a wonderful mother to her three children.  She is currently attending the Northwest College of Hair Design in Hillsboro.

We also awarded another $1000 scholarship to Christina Svelund.  Christina attends Portland Community College where she is working to obtain an accounting degree.  She is currently a medical billing specialist and realized that in order to further her career she needs to obtain a degree.  She has been very successful in maintaining a 4.0 GPA while working full time.

Thanks to a generous donation to our scholarship program this year by an anonymous donor, WWCEC was able to extend a third scholarship to Suzi Lewis a resident of Tigard.  Suzi is a second year recipient of our scholarship.  WWCEC is proud to be able to help Suzi for a second year as she pursues a degree in Graphic Design at Portland Community College.  Suzi said that the last year's scholarship literally turned her life around and gave her an opportunity to provide for her little girl and be a positive roll model for her.

WWCEC is proud to have been able to help these young women in reaching their full potential and look forward to seeing them be successful in their careers.

WWCEC is made up of several local employers who volunteer their time and efforts to create opportunities for other employers and their employees to improve their skills and knowledgebase.  We coordinate and hose monthly seminars covering timely topics that interest many local employers and mangers.  The WWCEC is a tremendous resource, not only for the education, but as a venue for employers to seek out a more involved presence in the community and to have a greater influence on employment concerns.
